Definitely all of us are stuck in this retrogression. But it won't hurt to put this as a lower priority item on IV's agenda.

It it right.. am thinking it depends on state to state ?

EB1 is the brightest not in all ways. If you are a manger in outsourcing company and in one more country u still qualify for EB1. It does not take long to become a manager in outsourcing companys. So how u can break the law or tweak around it works. I know people who were on bench life long in consulting companies in EB2 got GCs.

[QUOTE=tonyHK12;2057939]Well it is against the law to employ illegals and this is enforced strictly, so we can forget about tax deduction at source, SS, etc. It will be minuscule. These so called publications are from their supporters which they have numerous of.
Sure to what extent do you expect a small company to go to check if the person were legal or illegal.
I am aware of that well publicized stunt. Do you know we have only 800K farm workers and 1.5 million farm workers were granted amnesty in 1986?
The only way to get cheap labor is with short term foreign contract labor, amnesty will never work, they have to return anyway.
The farmer will stop working in the farm, the day he gets his GC. Lets not compare an educated american. A citizen with no schooling would take the job at the right wage.
Nor really true. I have disagree with you here. Labor for agri jobs was documented (and quoted) even by Bush when he was pushing for Comprehensive Immigration reform in 2007. The number 1.5 million that you quote includes families and children of those granted amnesty. Its part of keeping the family unit together.
There is no proof that the new bill will reduce costs at all! It will take many years to realize it anyway. Reform was needed but not at this moment when there were bigger issues that needed fixing in 6-12 months.
In the long run it will. The issue was that people could not afford to pay their healthcare insurance premiums. Those of us who are lucky to have high paying jobs and good employers can very look down on the folks that don't have healthcare. However, health care is now a human right declared by United Nations in Dec 1948. In the US, the largest developed nation, there are millions who cannot get healthcare (only emergency care). Even if this healthcare doesn't reduce it drastically in the short term, it will stem the rising costs eventually. That is the long term projection at least. Think about how much cheaper prescription drugs are in Canada when compared to the US.
I think that "what we are debating here is "what is better for the US". You and I can contribute to the SS and Medicare system that we are not allowed to draw from until we have greencards or become naturalized citizens. The illegals you mention are in the same boat. The point that I am making is that the anti-immigration lobby sees all immigrants in a single light. If we try to divide ourselves away from the low-skilled we are not going to get anywhere. Immigration in general touches a number issues - civil and human rights, economics, etc.. By trying to distance ourselves from any of these issues, we are in fact make it more difficult for ourselves. For the record, I do want a green card, I want a fair system. I don't believe in treating one person different from another because of their background or the kind of work they perform. (that's just to give some perspective regarding my views on the issue). Thanks for listening!

Well it is against the law to employ illegals and this is enforced strictly, so we can forget about tax deduction at source, SS, etc. It will be minuscule. These so called publications are from their supporters which they have numerous of.
Yes, there lies 1/2 the problem. Illegal immigrants will come as long as there is somebody ready to provide them a job. If the business owners are held accountable with heavy fines and punishment - half the problem is solved and the other half of the problem will gradually come to an end. But such enforcements are not there and are not widely talked about. Easy to blame the illegals when they are looking for betterment of life, while the business owners are lapping in luxury!
Bring the border control, and add in tough enforcement on business that hire illegals - and then you still will have to address the people who are still here illegally. It may not be 12 million, but millions will still remain. That issue has to be addressed. The current president has said that they are to be a given a "path to legality" - pay the fine (yes, it may be trivial in our standards, but not theirs) and get in line. It is not blanket amnesty either.
Most of us in this forum don't support law breaking, at the same time, we have to be practical.....
There is no proof that the new bill will reduce costs at all! It will take many years to realize it anyway. Reform was needed but not at this moment when there were bigger issues that needed fixing in 6-12 months.
What reform was needed first? immigration reform before health reform? lets fix the problems of the foreigners first, and then lets take care of the dying? Does that sound right? Even otherwise, which ever reform the president and the congress had taken, would it have gotten support?
economy is doing well = tax break; economy is not doing well = tax break - does that make sense?
big govt is bad! please vote for me, I want to run for the govt!
education - we don't have much money. defense - we are always under attack, so lets spend more money on 20th century war craft!
list goes on an on.......
Citizenship is not the answer and I'm tired of seeing all immigration bills partial to illegals.
agreed
They should go to the back of the queue and get reform only after legal immigration is fixed.
They should go to the back of the queue and get reform along with legal immigration.
Their supporters are hampering our efforts.
absolutely! wouldn't you? they play the game of leverage and we would do the same.
There are millions of poorer people in Africa and India who need more help. These countries have better farmers too.
If they shared borders with the US, they would have done exactly what the mexicans are doing.
The sad thing that separates our community from theirs is that they stand up for their own people irrespective of wealth. Take our community - of the hundreds who got the green card/citizenship - how many stay to help us? Why are the older generation of Indian immigrants fighting the new comers?

This is the precise reason I am staying away from IV, people just dont show any civility in the forum discussions and starts name calling or shot down the people who ask questions.
If IV comes up with just one single GOAL of reducing the curent EB backlog for the restorgressed categories, people even from RoW countries will start participating in IV campaign and support IV's advocacy efforts in terms of their donations and volunteering for IV.
Reducing the current EB backlog will help everyone.
You guys are really great to find all these lame excuses not to participate.

CIR wont pass in 2009 or 2010. It may pass in 2011. Here is why..
- No lawmaker tocuh a big immigration bill when unemployment numbers going up
- Health care bill is a major major change. lawmakers need atleast one election cycle to rethink and pass any other controversial bill like CIR
- Dems does not have enough votes in the house to pass CIR. think Blue dogs.
- CIR wont be touched in an election year 2010
- Obama already satisfied Hispanics with Supreme court judge
- Health care reform already turned into Immigration reform and you know what happened.
There are plenty of reasons CIR wont happen.

all the studies by economists, investment experts, psychologists, etc for the last several decades clearly showed that for 99% of the people day trading makes them lose all their money. it is highly addictive and on an average everbody loses their savings. legally it is another style of trading and there are no consequences whether you are on J1, H1B, on EAD or a citizen! (ofcourse if somebody knows which stock is going to be up/down and exactly when, he can make a lot of money (better call him a prophet than a day trader/pattern trader).

We have had phone and email campaigns in the past. Phone campaigns work the best when a specific bill is being debated and there is the target 2-3 days campaign. The rest of the time, person-to person presentation is the best.
Yes, I'm in for person to person too. Will check the NY chapter.
The next step is to motivate others. Maybe persons would be more interested if we go out in small groups. Combine it with some other activity. Sometimes travel for chapter meetings can get tough for some, with families, could combine with skype.
There was also a hidden joke about outsourcing phone calls ;)
